As an advocate for The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE), a scholarly society dedicated to higher education and diversity in its programs and membership, I am pleased to be a presenter at the 41st annual conference from November 10 – 12, 2016 in Columbus, Ohio.

I will explore how college presidents and chancellors positioned themselves within the national dialogue about desegregation and civil rights in the 1960s. My presentation: College Presidents’ Responses to Race: A Historical Perspective for a Contemporary Issue will provide new insights into presidents’ and chancellors’ responses to critical moments of race on campuses. This study is relevant in our present time, considering the current racial issues several academic leaders face today.
